Just wondering what everyone does to notify the general public that they are available for swarm collections?
Is it with your council, or on specific websites, like the beekeepers assoc ?
I wouldn't mind strengthening a couple of hives with a swarm or two!
I also enjoy collecting swarms that are in easy reach. Feels like a good hours work and benefits all!
All of those things you mentioned but you could also try posting a notice in the general store, I expect they probably have a community noticeboard.
Depends where you are. (Help us by updating your location in your profile)
Some beekeeping clubs maintain a list of people willing to help remove bees on their web sites.
Contact your local law enforcement/fire department dispatch with your information. You would be surprised how many calls they get during swarm season.
There was some guy at Bunnings giving out my details last year. This year a stockfeed supplier and a beekeeping supplier have been doing the deed. (Not that I have had time to collect more than 2)
I gave my name to the local fire department and they passed it on to a pest control company that apparently doesn't like to deal with bees. I was surprised how many calls I got from the pest control guy the last two seasons.
Yep
Your local fire department, animal control, police department and pest control companies is what I did. I revieved more calls than I could manage.
The County Extension Office (Agriculture) keeps a record of swarm catchers around here.
