I know we been in a derth for about 3 months now ( maybe a small flow at time's, I wouldn't really know) I got home from work this morning and all 6 hives where bringing in pollin ( about 1-2 bee's a second), bright yellow pollin too, is this a sign of a small flow or is this normal to have pollin supply all during the summer? Do people use pollin traps this time of year? looks like they could fill the hive at the rate they are bringing it in , and I dont know where they are getting it all from.
There is usually ample supply of pollen available throughout the growing season, and the bees will take it in i they need it. Plants will always produce pollen, but they will not always produce nectar. You could have a pollen explosion and still no nectar coming in.
My bees were collecting a white pollen back in late June.
Come to find out it was from "goat weed"
I was looking out for wild blooms here in North Texas
on my long drive to a jobsite this morning.
It seems to my eye that Sun Flower is the only thing
you can really notice this time of year.
Does anyone know if bees collect pollen or nectar from Sun Flowers?
We also have lots of Crape Myrtle in bloom this time of year,
but I've never noticed honey bees on it.
Bees do get pollen from sunflowers however there are some varieties that are pollen-free.
my bee's are working crap-myrtles pretty good, but my tree's are small and they are bring in to much pollin to be from them tree's.
