Title: Canada has given 2011 new recommendation to treat varroa.
Post by: Finski on December 06, 2011, 01:15:33 PM
.
I cannot link my phone to Canadian link but...

Canada follows European Varroa Group's results in varroa treatments.

Methods are oxalic acid, thymol and formic acid.

Canada has taken trickling recipe from Switcherland: take 1 litre 1:1 syrup and mix 35g oxalic acid.

The weight of that syrup is 1250 g. So we get 2.8% oxalic solution.

North Europe uses 3.2-3.5%.
Italy uses 4.2%

All stuffs above give over 95% dead rate of mites in broodless hives.
Trickling violates badly larvae.

(You may trickle swarms too. - Canada has not mentioned  that.)

Recommendation says that split the two box hive. But that is impossible to do and it is not needed.

Thanks

Did a treatment a week or two back and was impressed with the results.

Approved or not.....will use it again.
