Title: Head-butting, good for bees, not people
Post by: T Beek on December 09, 2011, 08:21:23 AM
Latest email from 'Catch the buzz' (from bee culture mag) has an interesting article describing how some scout bees headbutt other scout bees, repeatedly disrupting their waggle dance in order to convince them to occupy another 'selected' site upon swarming.  Very cool observations made by Tom Seeley.  Check it out.

Is this considered workplace violence?

Of course Thomas Seeley at Cornell has done a lot of research on how bees decide the swarm destination.  His book "Honeybee Democracy" is about how the bees essentially vote on where to go.  I guess head butting is the 30 second ad of bee democracy.

Yes, you don't have to have a subscription to get the CTB emails.
