I've used several methods to see eggs for grafting purposes, none have helped more than this setup. It's not to expensive but you have to have electricity.

That looks identical to one that I have that I've used in the past to build qrp ham radios (these are small radios with tiny discreet parts). That is a substantial magnifying glass that should reveal the day old larvae's smile. ;) I'm not sure about the light, though it is florescent I recall it does put out a bit of heat...you'd have to take care not to dry out the larvae and jelly. There might be enough natural/ambient light to use it without electricity. If I ever decide to try grafting I might just have to try mine out.
Best wishes,
Ed
I just saw these at a local grocery store, on the reading glass rack...$25.....and bought a pair. I tried them out on some empty comb and the light seems just right and no hands. Will see how they work in a few weeks.

I've try ed several lighted visor magnifiers and don't like to wear them. The one I listed does not get hot at all and you can just move it out of the way if needed. You can add a pair of cheap reading glasses for extra detailed work. All I need is the be able to see the eggs I'm after.
