Title: Quick check of a few hives
Post by: backyard warrior on February 22, 2012, 05:12:48 PM
Went threw four of my hives and two of them are koehnen carnie and cordovan italian.  Both of these hives impressed me when i opened them up packed full with honey and packed with bees and brood compared to the other two i opened up thus far.  Quite surprised that my hives are bringing in lots of yellow pollen already here in northeast pa.   These two hives have large numbers of  foraging bees in this warm spell i guess i will have to watch closely for very early swarms.  Chris

It is 18 degrees and there is snow on top of my car.  The temps are going to zero and will be below freezing for a week they say.  Will be a long time till I see pollen of any color coming in.  I envy you the inspection.

I ordered a package of Koehnen's Carnies last year and they have impressed me too. They are doing great this spring too and are building up the hive and toting pollen in on every warm day.

They are also the most laid back hive I have too. I've never used the smoker on them since I got them and they let me do inspections with no problem. Gotta' love those California girls!  :cheer:
