Title: Honey super storage
Post by: Hemlock on March 10, 2012, 01:15:19 AM
This year I will have more supers than storage area.  Does anyone store their supers outside in the open using the wax moth prevention method?
Thanks.

.
Bees use to find a tiny hole to the storage. When I stuck the holes, birds open them. Not good idea.

There is a large professional bee keeper in Sweden that keeps his suppers out in his bee yards , saves transporting and warehousing costs.

I believe that he wraps them in saran wrap , same stuff that transport firms use and uses queen excluders against mice.

I think he has poly hives.

All mine are stored outside.  None of mine have any moth treatment.  Freezing is quite sufficient and they are back on the hives before the wax moths get going again.

I stored all of my empty supers (those containing drawn comb) outside this winter. The comb looks great. I stacked them on a bottom board and with a lid, and I hope they'll attract a few swarms...if not, they'll soon be moved on top of other hives.

That's good news.  I like the ideas of stacking them with the honey excluder on the bottom.

Thanks all.
