Title: Secret City Swarm Shake Video
Post by: jmblakeney on March 29, 2012, 02:45:40 PM
Got a call first thing this am from the pastor of the First Christian Church in Oak Ridge, TN.  He lives in the home that the church owns.  He said that he had a clump of bees hanging from his dogwood tree in the backyard that had been there overnight.  Bees were very gentle.

Video to follow tonight.  Made sure i had fresh batts for this one.  ;)

Dont worry G3, JP and Schawee, I am making an initiation video this evening and will upload it first. :-D.

Oak Ridge is no secret any more.   They even have a sign for it out on the interstate.   Glad you got this swarm.

No Sir, sure ain't.  They even give tours around some of the places now.  They are tearing down some of the K25 plant, where they enriched uranium.  Lotta history in that city.

Here is the video.  Nice gentle bees.  Found the queen fairly quick.

Very well done!

That swarm hanging with the dogwood blooms has to be one of the prettiest swarms I've ever seen!

Thank you all.

Jp, it was a very pretty swarm.   After I got home and seen the smudges on the video I asked my son about it and he said yeah i was sticking my fingers on the lens.   :-\  Oh well just glad he could go with me.  It would've been a very good photo.  I may see if I can get a good still shot off the video.

I'd reckon.  They had 2 1/2 frames built like this overnight.  Jeez they are busy.

Here's a still shot from the vid.

Thanks for Riggs he is fearless,  but he hasn't gotten stung yet either.  That may change his bravery.

I'm still not really sure.  I know the apple trees and dandelions are, as well as several types of trees are in bud still.  But I did start feeding them 1:1 yesterday afternoon.

James

Your photo of the swarm is now my new desk top photo. I just love that swarm and also your son Aiden and how brave he is.

You are very brave yourself starting out and not wearing a bee suit. Guess you realized from watching all those JP video's just how gentle the bees can be.  I am not that brave and I always suit up so I really enjoy watching you guys who don't.

Have fun with your swarm

Annette

Annette, Glad you like the photo so well.  It was a pretty sight.  Thank you for your compliments.  Making these videos are so much fun.  I hope to be able to keep catching swarms and making them.  Bees aren't as abundant as they are further south, but I never thought I would've had this much activity with bees so far either.

Everyone here can attest to you that I was in the same boat last year.  I couldn't wait to get a swarm.  Never did happen my first year.  So far this yr I've had 3 swarm calls, 2 cutout calls, and am doing 1 trapout with G3farms.
Be patient and keep putting your name out there.

Nice swarm and nice job with the video.  Nice boy you have there as well.  I see he is right at home around the bees with you.  A great experiance for a youngster his age.

Good luck and hope you have enough equipment for the next one, LOL!
