Title: Need help on this split I made
Post by: annette on April 10, 2012, 12:23:12 AM
Hive was full of queen cells and I split them. Took the marked queen out into the new split. My question is: They really only had frames full of open nectar, not capped honey. I placed about 4 frames full of nectar into the split.

Is open nectar as good as capped honey for them?

I would say nectar would be better because they won't need to bring in water like they would to dilute honey to eat it.

I hear they really do good if you supplement them with beer and hot wings!  :cheer:   :catchchick:

They'll do just fine, relax.

Mine prefer Shiner Bock and chips with a local chipotle hot sauce. :)

Good luck with those splits.

If we were in late Fall, uncapped nectar might be an issue.  At this time of year it's fine.  May your hives increase!   :-D
