We have 2 hives that are almost 1 year old now. So far no treatments have been done whatsoever. We have a very healthy bunch of new bees this Spring with good queens producing more brood. We are setting our hives up to have a double brood chamber each. Maybe or maybe not excluders-this is another subject. I recently bought drone frames in an attempt to kill any potential mites without using harsh products. My question is where to place the drone frames in a double brood chamber? I bought 8 frames for the 2 hives. ie: I was going to rotate 2 frames at a time in each hive.
Do both go in lower box or 1 in lower and 1 in 2nd box? , or both in 2nd box?
Are you use 1 or 2 drone frames per hive ???
You only 1 drone frame per hive in the brood chamber.
BEE HAPPY Jim 134 :)
i bought the green IPM Plastic ones.. place them anywhere in the brood box at 1 per box and in 12-14 days take them out and place then in the freezer ,after frozen scratch the capping's and place then back in the hive for cleanup?
is this the correct way?
thank you

It takes 24 days for drones to emerge, so as long as there are empty cells left, you could just change out the drone frames every 24 days. No reason to do it more often unless you are doing an inspection for some other reason.
Outside edges or in the middle of the brood?
I place them in the upper deep in the #3 or #7 position. Easy to get to, not in the center of the brood nest but close enough for the queen to frequent.
