I hived ten packages last friday. Today went in to see how they were progressing. Only got thru four before a thunderstorm rolled in and stopped for the day. None of the four has taken much of the syrup I had on them(less than a quart each). Two seemed ok on drawing comb, one had very little drawn and one had drawn no comb at all.
The one that drew no comb is really troubling. I was unable to find the queen but could have missed her. Should I go in again and try harder? Just give them more time to get started? If I should wait , how long until I look again? If they not gonna start then I should prob combine and get some use out of them.
did you use foundation and if so, what kind? are they building comb anywhere in the hive?
they are on pf120's, no comb anywhere in the hive.
Was out there this morning and that hive is now bringing in tons of pollen. Maybe being cooped up in the hive by rain for 24hrs got them busy. I'm pretty happy about all the hives now and can't wait to get in them again next weekend
Should have got and ob hive so I could look inside every day.
Oblib, it looks like you're hooked. I love reading posts of newer beekeepers and sensing the excitement they have for their new bees. Your posts about your new bees bring back the excitement I had when I started. Let those bees work and don't worry too much about them. If they're bringing in pollen, they probably have a good laying queen. Enjoy it.
Oh yeah I'm hooked. Think I gonna get them on an inspection schedule where I open 1 hive a day. Then I get to see inside 1 every day :-Dbut only bother them every 10 :),barring bad weather that prob pushes it to 2 weeks.
