I'm here anxiously awaiting the arrival of my first nuc!
Shannon
Welcome Shannon.
Installed 8 Nucs for a friend Saturday. Where is you nuc coming from?
Good Luck,
Steve
I bought it as part of a kit from my local bee store. I think it should arrive the first week of May. I am nervous and excited. Do you think I can install it myself?
Sure you can! Smoke them a little. Place each frame in the same order in the center of your new hive body. Finish filling the box with empty frames. Put the lid on them and check on them in a week to see how they are progressing on drawing out the wax on the additional frames.
Good Luck,
Steve
Welcome to the forum Shanon. Sure you can handle it, and good luck with your bees.
Joe
Thank you both so much. I am sure I will be back with more questions. As a matter of fact, I just thought of one. Should I feed them when I put them in the hive?
It would not hurt. If you have a nectar flow they may not want the syrup. Go ahead and offer it to them.
Steve
Yes, it helps them out. And welcome to the forum.
Hello and welcome Shanny hopefully you bought it from me ;). Installing nucs is a piece of cake. Takes about 5 minutes. I checked on about 50 or so nucs today and some are capping frames of honey allready but you should feed while there drawing out comb, for about 4 to 6 weeks. Im here for ya ether way
Have to ask, how far are you from the Salatins & Polyface Farms?
...JP
I would say 20 minutes from Polyface. Just west of me. Thanks for your help everyone and Valley Bee Supply is where I got my stuff. I was in the class last Saturday. It was awesome!
Welcome to the site!
Do you frequent their farm? Awesome place and philosophy.
