the time for a mouse guard has come and is long gone.   put them on in fall while the bee's are still active and take them off in spring when they break cluster.

I used 1/4" hardware cloth.  No way a mouse can get in there, but if I had one complaint it is that the bees had a hard time removing the dead though it.  Had a constant pile of deal bees in front of the hive that I would have to clean out every now and then.  I bet 1/2" would be easier on them, but I'm pretty sure a small mouse could make it though half inch.

time for new frames and foundation. that sucks
a mouse can get through a dime size hole typically.

I won't use 1/4" screen anymore. When bees return with pollen, it gets scraped off easily. I found a whole handfull of pollen pellets under a hive yesterday in my outyard. I immediately removed the screen and reducer.

A mouse can go through 1/2 in. wire. It is hard to find, but they make 1/3 in. wire.

Do they make 3/8" (or 10 mm)  :? :? I do not know.

10 mm as about 1/3"

They make a 3 wire per in. hardware cloth. I have a roll of it. I used it when raising mice for the pet stores.
