Title: Drone larvae on the front porch...
Post by: The Bix on April 18, 2012, 09:44:01 PM
Over a week ago I noticed a couple of larvae that had been pulled out of my strongest colony.  Upon my next inspection I noticed the bees had pulled a few drone larvae out of their cells.  Every other day or so I find a couple more on the front porch.  Today I noticed five of them on the ground in front of the hive.

My first thought was, "Good! Hygenic bees doing their job."  I took a close look at a few of the larvae and I didn't see any varroa stuck to them.  So I'm a bit puzzled.  This is my fourth year in beekeeping and I've never seen it before.

Is this anything about which I need to be concerned?

Thanks!

I noticed this a few days ago, but have had some cold snaps and figured they just got chilled.
