Title: Bees going in the back
Post by: sjackson on April 22, 2012, 01:30:45 PM
I installed 2 new packages Saturday, all went well. I have a shb trap on the bottom of my hive's. When i installed the bees some where flying around and started using the back where the trap slides in. I have a screened bottom's. Today some are still flying in and out the back. Is this OK?

As long as the bees are not getting in the trap, it is ok.   My hives all have many holes that the bees travel in and out.   Mostly from rotten corners or what nots.

What type of  trap are you using and is it below or above the screen bottom?

It is below the screen. It is from Rossman out of Moultrie, Ga.

I like Rossmans equipment.   (all but their inner cover but that's another post).   Bees should not be below the screen.   Do you think there is syrup that has run down there?    Is you are worried about bees coming and going, close up the holes.   Foil duct tape is a good temp fix the bees can not eat through.
