i have 2 hives in the apiary that have 2 full boxes of brood, pollen nectar, & honey. hive # 1 requeened itself this spring & she is a laying machine. this hives is full of brood. so full that i'm checking for swarm cells on a regular basis. BUT- they are not putting any honey in the super. hive # 2 is 3' away from hive # 1. the queen is older & is not producing as much brood but there are a lot of bees in the hive so she is obviously producing enough brood. i'm going to be adding a 3rd super this morning.
a lot of plants are blooming including the black locust. the clover is blooming as well. both of these hives are foraging in the same area. why would there be such a difference in honey production?
With 2 dogs from the same littler, one is the best bird dog around, smells birds from a mile away. The other dog can run for 2 days straight and never tires, but that dog won't hunt.
Same as no 2 dogs are the same, no 2 hives are the same.
