Has anyone used the pail feeders with the yellow plug in the center? The plug has a screen at the face of the pail with two holes on the other end of the plug where the syrup comes out. How do these work? I thought that the theory was that the bees moving along the bottom of the feeder is what makes the syrup come out of the feeder. With these, there are only two holes to let it come out and there is really no way that the bees have access to them. They can only get to the screen which is about n inch or so below the actual holes. I started using these with my new hives but then changed over to jar feeders because the bees were not able to get enough out of the pails. Have I been using these things the wrong way or what?
The screened side should be to the bottom and the two holes up inside the pail.<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/qnGmff7LAL0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Yes, that's the way I had it, but how does the syrup get to the screen if gravity is holding it in an the bees can only touch the screen?
The screen and plug face down so syrup lays on the screen all the time.
And leak check before putting in the hive!!
