Title: Stored sugar vs. honey - how to tell?
Post by: Davepeg on May 03, 2012, 07:08:57 PM
How can you tell if what you have in a frame is actual honey or just stored sugar syrup from feeding?  I usually don't take anything unless I know I have not been feeding for a while.

my rule is to assume that it's syrup if i'm feeding.  i don't feed with honey supers on and i don't take from the brood chamber.

There is never a need to feed when you have honey supers on.  That honey is the extra that they make, for you.

Taste it. If you like it, it's honey. :D

Too late now, but if your worried about it in the future,  use food coloring to dye your syrup.
