Title: good news today!!
Post by: rober on May 05, 2012, 06:53:35 PM
a fellow retired carpenter with 30 acres gave me the ok to set up as many hives as i care to today!!!! plus the property is only 10 minutes away from home. i'll survey the property next week to see how many hives the forage can support. this has been my biggest concern about expanding. i'm at 10 hives now on my 1/2 acre which is probably 4 too many considering how densely populated the area is that i live in.

Take half of your hives over there.   :)

as soon as i get all these hives queen-right that's what i plan on doing. it's easier to deal with that stuff here. i will be setting up some stands at the new site just to be ready. we could have another month of swarming the way this weather is so i'll be glad for the space. i have another offer to put hives at the rear of a nursery as well. it's within 13 miles of the house. it's surrounded by good forage & has a creek nearby for water.

Congrats on the new site.  I am currently surveying my area for an additional beeyard.  But I am feeling lazy.  If 13 miles is good for you then I have been trying to keep it within 5, but it sounds like I am a bit more rural then you.  Regardless congrats the place sounds great!!  Don't forget proper planning.. I am considering moving my stands completely and putting down a mat.  dang ants are a real hassel this year for some reason.

Best of luck
