Played hookey today suppose to be the nicest and warmest day of the week here in Connecticut, so I took advantage of it! Been outside soaking up the rays hiking around the woods and taking insect pics. My Wife called me to meet her for lunch then give me a tour of her new building were she works now. Had a nice lunch saw her new place very nice. Then I went to leave and I see a group of women staring and pointing ahead of me where I go to turn to leave and there it was...a huge swarm!!! One lady was walking by and she was swatting but got away unscathed. I immediately turned the car around parked grabbed my camera and headed toward the swarm. I saw most of them swarming around the higher branches of a huge pine tree, got closer and I could hear the buzzing coming from the base of the tree got down into the underbrush and around and there at the base of the ol' pine they were just pouring out. Now I am not quite sure they were swarming I was there for about 40 minutes and didn't see any of them ball up on a branch or anything? They weren't being robbed no fighting no aggressive behavior, and mind you I had a black shirt on wearing a good dose of cologne and within inches of the hive opening, not one aggressive move toward me no stings, I think I got me a future hive!!! :)
Just hope people haven't freaked out and called pest control! I called my Wife to tell her fellow co-workers there is nothing to worry about, you don't bother them and they won't bother you and that they are good to have around.
