Title: Capped honey from cutout
Post by: GWDawg1 on May 09, 2012, 10:04:50 PM
Anyone got any ideas how to extract the honey from a cutout, or should I just feed it out to my other hives?

Crush and strain for yourself, or just lay it out and let the bees rob it out for them.

Crush and strain works good but I ran my last cut out honey through a wax melter to separate the honey from the wax. Got seven gallons from one cut out.

I just recently packaged just over a gallon from a cutout not too long ago.  It was my first attempt, and after much reading, I think I figured out a great method.  I crushed the comb through a wire type colander, and let that drain overnight.  I packed up all the wax the next morning and then strained the honey through a triple layer of cheese cloth.  It came out very clear, and I intend to use this method on all of my future cutouts

I feed back to the bees when I am confaidentthat theyhave not been sprayed in the past. Which is seldom.  No noe wants to own up to trying to kill them off and then failed, cant tell you how many times after the cutout is done customers suddenly "remember" they had a pest controll guy ot last year and sprayed or dusted them.
