Hello,

I just joined.  Located in NV. Great to find this resource, will spend some time looking around/searching.  I'm also new to beekeeping.  Started with two hives (KTB) this spring.  Had to make a choice pretty quick once I ordered bees.  Chose KTBH because I could make them from lumber salvaged from glass crates, don't have to lift boxes, and like that bees can only get out where TB's removed.  Seem to be doing ok so far.  Will see how well they overwinter.  After 3 weeks one hive has 13 combs in it, the other is weaker, only about 6 combs.  Mid May to mid June is supposed to be a dearth here so I'm feeding sugar syrup, but they are bringing in a lot of pollen.  I bought some pollen substitute, but haven't fed it since they seem to be doing well on their own.  Wish I knew what it was from though, so had some idea of it's quality.  This is high desert area, but lot of properties with water rights around me, quite a few cottonwoods (cotton blowing now), small willows (but I don't see bees on them), Russian Olive (in blossom, but I don't see any bees on them).  The fruit tree and early flower blossoms are all gone now, most flowers not in blossom yet.  Lilacs were in blossom the last few weeks, but the bees preferred the cardinal songbird bushes I planted about 15 years ago to the lilacs - were all over the cs, but they are done now.  Lots to learn...

Welcome to the forum, you may want to see if there is a local bee club also.  Good luck with your bees.

There is a local club.  I attended the May meeting.  Were about 40 or more attendees, a number with many years experience and multiple hives.  One of them picked up my bee packages for me in April when he picked up 20 for himself.
