Put in on the ground. It will last until it is washed away by water. I recently had a colony of ants move into a swarm I hived. Feeling they were doomed anyways I shook cinnamon over the entire inner hive, and frames. bees got a little pissy, and the ants moved out. All is well with that hive now.

My wife had some corn meal that went bad, I spoured it around the 1 hive that had a few ants.  No ants  now for 2 weeks.

The big blacks once well established in a hive will cause the colony to abscond. Have had it happen, now I get after the critters.
