Title: On Average, How many pounds of honey are on 1 full Capped Deep Frame?
Post by: Dimmsdale on July 04, 2012, 12:54:41 PM
Is there a rough figure out there?  Don't have the means to weigh it and would be helpful in knowing how much to leave for the bees over winter.

Hope you all are having a great harvest!

Thanks!

we just did a small harvest,
yield was close to 1/2 gallon per deep frame...perhaps a pint more, now you just need to look up density of honey....
hope this helps some

I bet you can go to the Salvation thrift store and buy an old spring bathroom scale.  Take it and a 2 foot squar piece of plywood out.  Rock your hive up on one side and put the plywood and scale under it where you can rock it to the other side and balance it by that corner.  You will get a rough weight of your hive.  Subtract the weight of your dry equipment without bees and honey and you will come closer to what you need I would bet.   I bought a frieght scale from Harbor freight I use the same way for not much money.

Idde;

I believe he questioned the weight of  - "1 Full Capped Deep Frame " ?

But I agree, they probably meant weight of - 1 Full Capped Deep Hive Box as they referenced keeping bees over the winter.

I think you are right. My mistake. He can divide by 10 and have what he wants.

So if I wanted to know the same info for a fully capped medium frame I would divide the deep numbers in half?

On a medium I figure on close to 3 lbs..  About a quart a frame won't miss it bad.

Yes, a medium will be about 3-3.5 lbs per frame or 30-35 lbs of honey/ 4--45 lbs per box (that is why I use mediums, not as young as I was when I started this :brian: :lau:)  -Mike
