Thinking about ordering some of these queens. I understand that the NWC Carniolan is well suited to long winters. Anyone in the Zone 7 area have good luck with them? Would love to hear from anyone who may have tried these out in our hotter areas. Wondering if they can tolerate heat. I don't see a drop in brood rearing during the worst of our summers as a downfall - am I wrong?
Well haven't wintered them over yet, but mine seem quite happy to be this far north.
I have a hive of Carnies and a hive of "mutt" bees. I've had Italians in the past. By far the Carnies are my favorite. They went through our mild winter on the light side, but came roaring back with a strong hive now and beautiful honey. They are very sweet, too!
