Title: JP And Schawee Remove Two Hives In Gretna, Louisiana
Post by: JP on July 22, 2012, 11:41:52 PM
This one we did on May 14, 2012. For some reason or other we forgot to do a sign off so we did one today at Schawee's place. Two good sized gentle hives were removed this day.

G, I asked Schawee if he wanted to go get breakfast but he said he's not a breakfast person. His loss.  :-D

Great video.   I noticed that you two suited up on that removal.   And you ate so much you forgot to video the end.

I would too if some big cajun stomped all over them to get them riled up. I just might get a bit riled myself.

I don't recall the bees being all that aggressive that day, except maybe right after we danced on those floor sections.  :-D

That jumping on the floors made me laugh and by the way, I heard Schawee say he had to much steak lately and he wanted chinese.

That was 2 great removals. I noticed you are using your bee vac more and more these days. You used to use smoke when it got too hot outside.

If you two ever offer breakfast to me, I'm gonna accept! I love breakfast. (I love lunch, too).

JP, what do you consider when you decide to access a floor-joist hive from above (through the floor) versus from below (through the ceiling)?

Annette, When indoors I use the bee vac a whole lot more.

Liz, if they are in between floors my preferred option is to go in from above if, there is carpet over plywood, which is often the case in my area. If the floor above is finished I consider going in through the exterior but depending on how far the colony has built into the void space it may not be possible to get everything out going in from the exterior.

I don't particularly like going in through the ceiling as I don't care for honey dripping down on me and besides the home owner is left with a sheetrock repair.

Another very enjoyable video JP, thanks.  I envy you all the cut-outs and swarms you encounter, and yet I don't have room for any more hives in my backyard.

I like watching the bees as they're marching into a hive and I was wondering (just in case I do get an opportunity), whether your bottom boards are screened or solid.

You're having way too much fun!  X:X

Thanks JP, I thought probably so.  I will build myself one just in case I find a use for it.  I use a SBB on my Lang that has space underneath so I can slide a board under it to close off the bottom on (both) nights when it gets too cold.  Easy for me since I only have two hives and they are in my backyard.

Thanks again, and keep up the good work.
