Title: Fall brood
Post by: psbeekeeper on October 03, 2012, 08:56:21 PM
Hello,

I was checking some of the hives this time of year and I saw some without any brood.  I know we are going into fall here and i'm not sure if that is normal or not?  Shiuld i combine? ...... Should I worry?

They do not need very much brood this time of the year.  Going into winter.

Mine are making brood and should continue until they go into their cluster for the winter < 40 - 45 outside. At present they are consuming 2 gallons of 3:2 and 1/2 of a pollen patty a week from a top feeder. This also will drop off about a week or so before they begin to cluster, then I remove the top feeder and replace it with a patty of fondant.  - Mike
