I had a ziplock bag with some burr comb sitting around for awhile. I picked it up and found wax moths (hatched) and little maggotts walking around. I did not know wax moths were that small. Do they get bigger?
The bag of wax took a trip to the South Pole. (the freezer in my basement)
That depends...the greater wax moth larvae do get a little bigger than the lesser but, neither really get THAT big. Could they be SHB? Small Hive Beatle larvae have little redish mandibles.
They were small, with white wings. I am sure they are moths. I expected them to be larger.

a wax moth larve doesn't have wings. it is just a worm like a maggot
can you post a pic
I saw the moths (hatched) and maggotts crawling around in the bag.
wax moths start as tiny eggs and grow to an inch and a half long or so (they vary in length as the move too) and the size also depends on if it's the greater or lesser wax moth. I have lots of both around. :)
Those "maggots" are what you can go fishing with. It's the same wax worm that they sell in those soda machine looking coolers for a couple bucks a dozen.
I will post a pic when it thaws out.....
