Title: Moved to Harrisburg P.A. and have a few questions
Post by: Billybee on February 20, 2013, 09:44:10 AM
1: I can not update my profile for some reason on this forum . (not today at least)

2: Are there any foundationless beeks on this forum that live near here? Harrisburg (83 and Union deposit rd area)

3: If so I am looking for a small amount of comb to buy to get my packaged bees something to start with. (I did start packaged bees last spring with just a 1 inch hint of foundation on 1 frame and they did good but, of course I had to move and sell the bees)

4:  :-x  Just like in New Jersey there are 20 million or so beekeeper associations websites and such. Just like in New Jersey they are poorly kept (at best) and I can not get the info I am looking for on any of them. Info like State bee apiary registration and laws bla bla bla.

I would consider joining one if I knew there were foundationless beeks in it and the meetings were kinda close. I encounter much resistance from conventioal beeks in the association I was in elswhere a few years ago so no point in listening to that when I have my own goals.

I will be buying 2 packages of bees again and starting off with 2 hives here.

Theres a start and thanks for any help.

-Billy

PA Bee law and apiary registration form
http://www.pastatebeekeepers.org/inspection.htm (http://www.pastatebeekeepers.org/inspection.htm)
Less than 30 seconds on google and I found PA bee law
www.Pennapic.org (http://www.pennapic.org)
A large group of beekeepers in your new area.
Also check
http://capitalbeekeepers.org/ (http://capitalbeekeepers.org/)
Not sure if you are going to find a strictly foundationless group.

Note:
This much good info in less than two minutes. A lot of these clubs and groups are done by voliunteers, not paid staff.Cut them some slack if they do not meet your expectations. These people have a lot to offer, don't start out on the wrong foot.

17 assosiations in 3 minutes is a lot and I knew what I was looking for! For someone looking to get started I think it is an overwhelming amount of info. Especially when at least some of them are poorly run at best. Just because they are beekeepers doesnt mean they are all good for the cause. I could find negatives all day long but, aint nobody got time for that.  I did find a person to help via this forum and his donation of comb gave my packaged bees the foundationless start they needed to get things straight and orderly.

Thanx for you efforts on the post though.

Bill

Here's an idea.  Why don't you start your own beekeeping organization, spend lots of your free time dedicated to helping beekeepers without getting paid and then we can all criticize you when you don't run it exactly the way we want it to be run.
