Anybody ever use port orford cedar or yellow cedar for hives? I have a large supply of boards i could use but they give off a different odor when they are cut. Not sure if it would be offensive to bee's. It is a very weather resistant wood and doesn't need any finish.
Have you heard of a feral hive in that type of tree? build a nuc and put a split in it and see if they leave.
They may like it for the pest protection it may provide.

I have seen hives made out of cedar.
Don't know anything about the type of cedar you are talking about, sorry.
My hives are being made from Missouri eastern red cedar.
So I know cedar is used.
Good luck
