Title: Oil in the Extractor?
Post by: TLWalters on November 26, 2005, 04:05:25 PM
Hi,
Okay here's a strange question. I have an old galvanized 4 frame hand crank extractor. The previous owner said they always put a thin coating of cooking oil in to make cleanup easier. I've heard this before, but it seems odd to me. Any input?

Also is it okay to use a galvanized extractor provided I scour off all the rusty places?
Thanks!

I have not herad of it.  I wouldn't.  You don't want oil in your honey. It will disolve in the honey as honey is an emulsifier.

If you paint the inside with some epoxy paint it would be better than the galvanized.  Most of the bee suppliers sell it.  Camcote is the typical brand name.
