Title: Advise for a beginner
Post by: JEK on March 28, 2013, 03:28:46 PM
Hi there,

Not only am I new to this forum but I am also a new beekeeper! I have been interested in beekeeping for a while but 10 months ago I decided to take the plunge! I have 5 hives and am in Sydney's west..

My question is, being that it is Autumn here (feels more like summer), I was wondering if it would be too late to do a honey extraction now? A couple of the hives are very strong with a 10 frame box full of capped honey above a 10 frame box full of brood and honey. My main concern is that the bees will starve in winter..Any feedback will be appreciated..

If you dont take some of that honey off and give them room, they will start filling the brood box with honey. Maybe to be safe just take 5 - 6 frames of honey and extrat that.
