Title: A hello from a newbie beek in IL/NM
Post by: HKH on May 13, 2013, 08:12:25 AM
Hi I have been beekeeping for about a year or so both in Il and NM.  Mainly been helping local beekeepers as needed with hive inspections, adding packages and doing splits.  The big difference between the two different area groups is the method of bee health.  The IL group use pesticides for mite control while the NM group use organic methods and breeding resistant bees.  I use some of both plus mainly use feral bees which are survivors.  Although the feral bees can be harder to work with as most are Africanized  the NM area but they are survivors.  Really glad I found this website.  Always open to new thoughts on problems.

Welcome to the forum HKH. Working with Africanized bees can take different methods than we are used too. Your input will be helpful.
