Just getting back into bees after a 30 year absence. The hive is together and the package is due in the 29th of May. I have many bears which will make things interesting. I am planing on putting the bees in a old dog run that has 2"x4" fencing all the way around and on the top also. Hopeful that that will be sufficient to keep the bees safe. I was reading about the screen bottom board and found this forum.
Welcome to the forum and back to beek, Switchback. Good luck to you and your soon to be bees

Welcome to the forum Switchback.
Welcome!
Bears will be your biggest problem where you live. They certainly are for me.
I have a great place to put several more hives but have to wait until I get the fence built. It takes a pretty sturdy fence to stop a bear.

Good luck
Good luck and welcome back. :cheer:
I saw a YouTube once of a bear hanging by its front paws going 'hand over hand' over a fence to get to the hives. If I had your problem, I would look into the electric fence idea but check your local laws regarding placement and signage. -Mike
Good luck and welcome.

See attachment below on a simple bear fence.
My dad just lost his hives for a second time in a handful of years to bears in Northern PA- good luck!! :)
KatBee, I had the bears on top of the old dog run that I have the Bees in all ready. But the good thing is the welded wire fence on top held. I have now put electric on the outside of the welded wire fence. I hope that keeps the bears away.
