Title: What to look for...
Post by: dfizer on May 20, 2013, 08:29:31 PM
...to know when to add the first super to a 2 deep hive that wintered over?  What I'm getting at is = at what point do you know that it's time to add the first super?  I have brood coming out the ying/yang and do not want the hives to swarm....  I think it may be time to add supers given the activity that's happening currently.

If you have 2 deeps full of bees, and a good nectar flow going on, add at least one  medium super. most likely have to add another in 5 to 7 days. if it is a shallow I would add 2.  :) d2

I'm using medium supers so I think I'll go ahead and add one to the two hives that are doing well - the other that is in the process of requeening itself I'll leave with just the two deeps.  Is there any danger in putting a super on too early?
