Title: Do Drones Swarm?
Post by: Bee Busters on May 29, 2013, 04:46:12 PM
Just wondering if drones leave with a swarm, or do they stay in the hive with the remaining workers?

drones will go with swarms.  probably not all, but some.  i had an observation and i don't know if it's supported by what others have seen, but it seems to me that drone heavy swarms more often have virgin queens.  that would make them secondary, or after-swarms.

maybe it's just me  ;)

Thanks KathyP.   I think you are correct.  I just got back from a call where a swarm entered a brick home today.  The population does not appear to be that large.  However there were plenty of drones.....
