Title: Woodworking bees?
Post by: duryeafarms on July 02, 2013, 03:08:32 PM
I opened my TBH yesterday and noticed sawdust inside near the entrance. My entrance is 6 inches by 3/8 inch. All the edges on the inside had been rounded off!  It's been really hot here I'm wondering if they are trying to open the entrance up, or have an understanding of fluid dynamics, making air flow smoother with smoother surfaces  :)

I didn't know honeybees could woodwork.

Hmmm...me thinks the bees had some help.

I've noticed the same behavior. My bees smoothing out the edges of my holes. They also seem to be fond of chewing up the corks plugging up extra holes.

My package was installed middle of April and they just did it in the last couple of weeks. I'm wondering what triggered it? Heat? They do have a decent sized comb in the front now. Maybe that did it.
