mine were out flying yesterday, it was a welcome sight.  I think they liked it too, bee poop everywhere.  :D

I had cleaned out the bottom board the day before, and with all the racket I was making scraping out dead bees, they didn't even come to see what I was doing, and it was plenty warm enough. It made me nervous enough to lift the top to see if I could find the cluster. there they were looking right at me.

Glad to see them out and about yesterday. They still have nearly a full deep of stores.

checked today and bees were out! good to see.only got stung a couple of times,when i invaded hive,no smoker.
tomarrow will take smoker wiyh me.

Nice Pictures.  I grew up in Connecticut, but now I am living way north in Canada.  Probably one of the coldest region in Canada (Northwestern Ontario).  The winters are extremely cold, although this winter is not as bad as previous.  We usually have periods of -40 F for several weeks and I manage to get my bees through.

I wonder how people lose their hives in warming climates during the winter.  My only guess is that the cold that I am in protects the bees from dying due to a lower moisture content in extremely cold air and the bees going into a lower metabolic state.

It would be fun to beekeep in Connecticut, but I never did.

it was 50 here yesterday and they where all out flying. today it is snowing and they have on there over coats and hats.  :lol:

Yeah, it is getting miserable cold here in South Florida. Those 40F/4C lows are devastating to me. Anything below 70F/21C is freezing to those of us who live here. Today is around 55F/12C , the bigger issue is that we are having winds up to 30 MPH/48KPH. This morning it was to cold and the bees were saying screw this were hanging in the hive and then when it warmed up, the winds picked up and they said to hell with this it is cold and windy, we are not collecting anything today.

If it is like this tomorrow, I am not going into the hive.
