Title: Screen Gauge
Post by: Leather Jim on August 02, 2013, 09:46:21 AM
I'm getting ready to screen and oil trap my hive bottoms and have a question. I'm sure this has been covered but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere, will #8 hardware cloth allow beetles and mites to fall through?

Thanks Jim

Yes....  :)

I think that pretty much accepted as the size of choice, the problem is usually finding it, a lot of places don't carry it, or they only sell it by the foot for an outrageous price.

My best luck has been a local mom and pop feed store.  Initially, I had them order a roll for me, last time I needed some, they actually had it in stock.

Whew, that's good to hear, just bought a roll from my local feed store, kinda pricy, but figured I'd us it all sooner or later. Was afraid I screwed up and got the wrong stuff. Thanks

You can find it on EBay. While more than I pay at Home Depot for similar mesh, its that supply and demand thing. If you spend enough time on Googling ya might save a couple dollars too.

Never ordered from them but this is the cheapest I've found on the net.
