Title: New to beekeeping
Post by: Chris Fite on August 09, 2013, 10:35:23 PM
Just to introduce myself.  I am in Taylors, SC.  I have been interested in keeping bees for quite some time.  Now I have decided to hunker down and build the hives so I am ready in the spring.  I found a source of nucs just up the road, so the bees will be local to me.

I have chickens, and always thought that they would prevent keeping bees, but that does not seem to be the case.

Welcome to the forum Chris. I also have bees and chickens. Never had a problem in 4 years. Some people use the chickens to clean out dead brood from frames they remove from their hi hives.

Welcome, Chris. If you have to choose between the two, honey on hot fried chicken is great.

I have chickens in a truck in my garden. at times they are less than 20 feet from my garden hives and have never had an issue.

Welcome, Chris! Definitely find your local Beekeeping Club(s), and perhaps your state association. The winter off-season is when you look for beekeeping classes/workshops in your area.
