Title: Still lots of drones about?
Post by: tjc1 on December 22, 2013, 01:13:57 AM
Last week with cold and snow here, I found a lot of dead bees on the snow fanned out from the hive entrance -was worried but then noted that most of them were drones. i was surprised that there would still be so many drones in the hive at this point. Perhaps the first spell of temps in the teens put the squeeze on them? I don't think that they had come out to cleanse - too cold. Today it was near 60, and I saw what looked like a standard summertime orientation flight, so I'm glad to see the hive looking healthy.

We haven't had snow but have had several nights in the lower 20's.  Still seeing some here also.  Good luck to you and your bees.
