Title: Still kicking out drones?
Post by: sweet bee on February 10, 2014, 10:18:11 PM
My aunt checked her hives today and found a couple hundred dead drones in front of the hives. Why would they be kicking them out so close to Spring?

I would check the hive for queen right. I don't think what you are saying is normal. Drone pupa after a cold spell, yes. Adults drones doesn't sound right.

If the weather suddenly turns cold, they will kick them out. If they have mites in the cell, a good hygienic hive will pull them.
