Title: Central FL (NE of Orlando) Palms starting to bud
Post by: Carol on February 24, 2014, 05:23:24 PM
I rode my bike past the tree farm that has a fairly large stand of Queen Palms. I saw at least three that had big stalks of buds. No bees on them so they havn't opened yet. Also had another lot of palms, not sure what they were, that were showing fresh buds but no bees yet. I'll be checking them daily to see how they are doing. Bottle Brush, Spanish Needle, Spiderwort and Elderberry blooming. Some near me. What else should I look for.

Any brazilian pepper? I don't know what it is being a Yankee, but I hear of it often from my southern friends.

It'll be another couple months before anything even thinks about blooming here. Expecting another snowstorm next Monday.

Brazilian pepper blooms in the fall. Citrus is the next major flow here. Holly and gallberry follow, then sawgrass palmetto then cabbage palm.

Palmetto is what I was thinking mark, Brazilian pepper popped into the cobwebs first and my mind went no further! :)

I can see a few buds on my Naval Orange tree...3 different palms blooming....only saw bees on one today...so maybe the other two arn't ready yet.

I posted pics of a couple of plants the bees are working but I don't know what they are for sure.

With all that blooming....I assume I don't need to feed anymore?

The Viburnum is blooming out here and I see bees working it.  I see them bringing in orange pollen too, but I have no idea what it is.

My wife tells me that there are a lot of bees shopping the garden aisles at Lowes.
