I was just watching a video about assembling frames with foundation. I've put tons of them together with foundation. Here's the thing that now has me puzzled. Using a frame with a sheet of foundation they still used fishing line to hold it in place. They said you could sling it out if you didn't.
Being new to this, and as hard as it was to insert, I just don't see how that foundation would come out of the groves. Any experience or comments? I have a few hundred frames that haven't went into production yet.
With plastic, it isn't needed. With wax foundation, cross wiring is recommended. Google cross wiring and you will find a lot of info. I cross wire my frames first, then install the wax foundation. The wires help hold it while installing.
i use wired foundation and have never wired my frames. i bought a spool of wire last year to experiment with foundationless but haven't gotten to it yet.

Ditto...... You can sling it out if you try hard enough. Especially in an extractor that is not radial.
I use primarily wired wax foundation, I'm actually giving some Pierco Plastic a try this year...But on my wax foundation, I always cross wire and melt the wire into the wax. Some think this is done to avoid blowouts while extracting, which it may or may not help. However, my understanding is that it's most important to support the foundation in the hive until the bees get around to drawing it out. I've heard stories of wax drooping, warping, and in some cases completely falling out the frame in the hives without it.
moots, that's why i use the foundation with the hooked wire. i've used the unhooked and had foundation fall out on hot days.

I use the N style frames for Kelley's with the slot cut in the top of the frame for the foundation to be loaded from the top, so I can't use hooked wire foundation.
I use horz. wire as well as vert. imbedded foundation. More like over kill. On the foundationless from Kelly's I'm still running wire.
I tend to handle the frames kinda rough and like the added insurance.
