Title: Learning to do a trap out from Iddee
Post by: capt44 on May 09, 2014, 10:15:16 AM
If you watch the video Iddee did on setting up a trap out and pay attention to what he has to say it will work.
I did some trap outs on structures and trees last year and all worked but one.
That one failed for some folks sprayed the setup with wasp killer.
This year I am covered up with trap out request.
I have 9 trap outs working and 10 more to setup as of right now.
The Daily Citizen news paper is doing an article on how I'm trapping out and saving honey bees.
After that article runs on Sunday I look to be swamped with trap out calls.
What I'm getting to is if you listen to what Iddee has to say you will have all the bees you can shake a stick at.
I use a 6 frame box 11 1/2 inches by 19 7/8 inches long by 10 1/2 inches tall.
I made supers to go on top with the metal dial type entrance closiers.
Usually after a set up I have to add a super within 2-3 days.
I remove those boxes and set up more with eggs or queen cells.
I usually have a lot of capped queen cells from raising queens so I just install a queen cell.
After the 1st setup you have most of the adult bees, then new bees start emerging and leaving the funnel.
I got 4 sets of bees from 1 trap out recently.
I'm doing trees and structures with very good success.
Here is a couple of pictures.

All I will say as be very careful if you are doing a trap out in and infestation area of SHB especially if it is a building.

Jim You are right as rain there. Best time for trap outs where SHB are heavy is the early spring.
