Title: A new beekeeping family from Kansas
Post by: Browtine on May 30, 2014, 04:38:56 PM
Hello. My two daughters, 15 and 10, both received hive scholarships from the NE Kansas Beekeepers and the Kansas Honey Producers this year. Both hives were filled with 3 pound package bees (1 Italian and 1 Carniolan) in mid April and are doing great.   Both have filled two 10 frame deeps and have a medium super on now.

The kids are really liking it and mom and dad are pretty interested as well, but we have a ton to learn.

We do also have two local mentors which are a great!

Looking forward to learning a lot here.

Welcome to the forum, Browtine.  Nice to receive the scholarships I'm sure.  There are lot of threads and videos here and when you have questions, just give them a post, someone will usually give you an answer.  It is good to have mentors also.  if you haven't you will want to join your local bee club also.        Sounds like their hives are doing great, good luck to you, your kids and bees.
