Title: Giant Asian Hornet
Post by: edric on June 14, 2014, 02:31:26 PM
Knocked this out of the air with a Sabal palmetto frond petiole, because I thought it was an Asian Hornet, but it has slightly different markings, and does not have a real yellow head either, did I kill it for naught? thanks, Ed

My crippling uneducated guess would be something in the wasp family. I can't really say tho.

Is this what you have? If so it's called a Cicada Killer.

It depends on how much sleep you want to get when the 17 year cycle of the mass cecada birth hits your area : :-\ 8-)

Thanks all, I killed it for naught, and I beg your forgiveness, they are no threat to Honey bees at all, I had no way of knowing it was a Cicada killer, it was moving so fast, the possibility of a threat to my bees made me panic, Ed

No biggie,  I'd have killed the big thing myself. Just cause it's a wasp. I hate wasps big or little, they are dead meat.
