Title: whitewash any pros or cons
Post by: Stan on March 02, 2006, 08:56:46 PM
My grandpa use to whitewash everything in the spring.   It is simple to make and use.   I do not think it has any bad qualities.

Anyhow, we have about 400 ft of old wood fence and I am thinking of mixing up a batch of whitewash and coating it.

Anyone have any comments ?   Thanks,  Stan

Hi Stan,

how do you make your whitewash?

You need lime, salt and water.   Be sure to read the above web page.  There are two kinds of lime for sale.

My granddad mixed it up in a 5 gal pail and used a cheap brush with a long handle to put it on, I think the brushes were made for putting on roofing tar.

Ahh,

OK - I never really knew what was in whitewash before.

Sounds like it would be good to kind of inexpensively spruce things up at the beginning of the season.
