Title: Is it time to bring in swarm traps now
Post by: Tightwad on June 28, 2014, 01:35:25 PM
Question do you leave your swarm traps all year long. Or do you put them away for the winter?  I have three out. And One of them is getting visited by scouts all the time. But they aren't ready to move in yet.

last year I got swarm calls all thru july & I'm just across town from you. the 1st part of july is typically the end of swarm season around here but the springs were wet & cool these last years & so the seasons were a tad behind schedule. any calls I get after july tend to be be yellow jackets so I now ask people to e mail me photos.

Here in Central Arkansas I am taking down swarm traps (18) that are full of bees.
I put up another trap when I take one down.
Last year I caught my last swarm December 12th and it was getting chilly that night.
I kept them in my house that night and put them in a hive box and merged them with another hive the next day.
Swarm calls have really slowed down here but they are still swarming.
