Title: Bush Lespedeza
Post by: biggraham610 on July 13, 2014, 11:36:00 PM
Does anyone know if the bees like it? We have miles of it planted as hedgerows around the farm. Along all roads and field edges. Working today I saw the first purple bloom and wondered. I guess I will know soon enough once it all goes to bloom. Just curious if anyone knows. Thanks G  :chop:

We have sericea lespedeza, not sure if I've seen the "bush". We probably have it I just ain't paid it no mind. sericea lespedeza has a property in it called "tannin". It reeks havoc on the internal parasites of goats. It attacks the life cycle of them at every stage. Pretty little purple-ish pink flower.

I think Tannin is the property that makes an acorn bitter. Red oaks have more tannin that why the deer prefer the white oaks. Yeah, this has a small purple flower, and tons of them on the plants. They will be blooming soon. I guess I will find out then if the bees use em for anything. G  :chop:
